Hi - I’ve been using Brave browser for some time but new to trying Brave search. I’ve struggled for literally hours to preserve my preferred settings in Search but they’re always lost on logout as I’ve set the browser to clear cookies on exit. I have added Brave and Brave Search to “Sites that can always use cookies”, but those are also deleted on logout. Run out of ideas now.
I’m aware that this seems to be a long-running issue and apologise for raising it again but help would be most appreciated. I don’t have this problem with Startpage or Metager, or keeping individual sites’ cookies in Firefox. Using Brave version 1.63.169
Many thanks.
Check & adjust your On Exit settings (see below). Maybe that’ll help some. As for Brave Search, yeah that resets whenever you logout. They want that AI enabled by default.
This doesn’t prevent it. Choosing to clear browsing data will trump anything else.
What you should be using instead are options in Shields. You’ll see if you go to brave://settings/shields
that there is a setting that says Forget me when I close this site
. If you enable this globally, it will clear everything from all the sites you use. Then you just would disable this through the Shields icon on a per site basis, such as toward the bottom of the screenshot below:
Or if you’re only wanting to clear data from a small portion of sites, you would do that in reverse where globally it is turned off and you only enable it on a per site basis.
Many thanks for your reply - I’ve solved the problem by doing as you suggest. I was trying to manage cookies under the ‘Privacy & Security’ setting - did not know about the ‘Shields’ . Will have to do some more reading.
