sometime issue is just banal there is not much else to say, except it started happening randomly today

Are you using Windows 10 or Windows 11? Horizontal tabs or vertical tabs? Do you have any extensions installed at this time?

Would it be possible for you to share a short screen recording of the behavior?

I am using Windows 11, horizontal tabs, i didn’t know there are vertical!

Yes Session buddy, Dark Reader and Consent-O-Matic, but i have them installed awhile and it was fine.

I have chronic pain and i don’t have recording sw. It is pretty simple, i cannot drag them to create new window (by dragging them out of existing one, i just see flash like new window was instantly created and then instantly dissappeared it is super quick)

If it won’t go away i will share recording…

@empleat Can you please try disabling your extensions and then test again and see if the issue persists?

Also, we have a list of free resources you can use for screen recording here:

I used these in firefox without issues. If the issue persist i will try.

Thanks!

Firefox is built on a completely different browsing engine than Brave is, so what works in Firefox (in this case) does not reflect what should/will work in Brave.

Here is video of the issue. I thought it stopped happening but not.

Yes and i am not just dragging wrong or something it is locked on place and cannot be moved to another window

Even tried to disable extensions and problem persist!

@empleat thank you for the recording. Super strange behavior.

I’d be curious to know if you see the same behavior when using vertical tabs, and when using a new window to drag tabs in/out of. Can you please try the following:

  1. In Brave, right-click on your tabs and select Use vertical tabs from the context menu:

Then, try pulling a tab off into a new window again and see if the issue is the same.

  2. Try first creating a new browser window (Ctrl + N or Main Menu --> New Window), open a couple tabs in it and see if those tabs also display the same behavior.

I tried:

  1. vertical tabs and
  2. open new tabs in new windows

And behavior still persists!

@empleat,
Interesting. A couple more tests for you to try:

  1. Can you please try launching a guest profile (Menu --> more tools --> Guest profile), close your original profile window, then see if the behavior occurs in the guest profile?
  2. If you try the above suggestion and the behavior persists, can you please try downloading the Beta build of the browser and see if you get the same behavior using the Beta (note that downloading/installing/running the Beta will not overwrite anything with your current install – it will basically run as a separate browser and you’re welcome to uninstall it after you perform the test)?

In guest profile it doesn’t work however using beta it works! I can drag tab to a new window

@empleat in your original Brave installation, do you by chance have any flags enabled in brave://flags?
