Can no longer verify my account with uphold due to country not supported?

Briefly describe your issue:

I am from the Netherlands and can no longer verify my wallet with uphold because of unsupported country?

Netherlands is still listed as supported country with 33 running campaigns

Also when I look at the page with unsupported countries the Netherlands is listed as not able to offer new accounts and my account was created 3 years ago.

Is your browser wallet currently verified? (yes/no)
Not anymore on this device but It is still verified on another phone.

What date did you verify your wallet?
the last time I had to reverify was a few months ago (probably 3 months because I had to verify it every 3 months)

Have you been able to successfully receive payments in the past?

Are you using a VPN? (yes/no)


Are you in a supported region (see here for list of supported regions)?

Yes with 33 running campaigns

Does your device pass the SafteyNet check (Android only)?


Have you fully completed Uphold’s CDD requirements?

Yes, I contacted Uphold about this issue first because I had to send my ID to them again to keep their data up to date… However according to the support the issue with the country no longer supported is a decision by Brave and not Uphold.

I find it a bit odd that the Netherlands is still supported according to the transparency page. And that on the page with supported countries for Uphold it states that it listed under not for new
accounts. page last updated on october 14.

Could someone please explain why I can no longer verify and is this a temporary thing or should I just disable ads since I have no option to transfer the BAT from my wallet?

That is to view Ad campaigns which earn you BATs…

The above is the list to view supported regions for verifying. The Netherlands isn’t on the list. So that explains why you get that error.
Also Brave is working on getting Brazil, India and a lot of other countries back with Uphold verification soon. Don’t know if The Netherlands is one of them though

Since my account is 3 years old I do not consider it a new account.

So I am aware of what the pages are for it is just that the information that is shown there is confusing to me

That is from Uphold’s side. That in now way affects your Uphold account since its already been made. The regional support thing is from Brave’s side, what happens is
Brave communicates with Uphold, Uphold only lets brave know if your account is verified, if yes, then from which region you are. If your region is supported by Brave then it allows you to connect, if not, then region unsupported error. I’m trying to explain this in easy words, there’s much more to it which probably I myself don’t know…

Yes I understand what you are saying you can see on the brave internals page what it is doing when verifying a wallet. At this moment it doesn’t show any data about it in the log of the rewards-internals page.

Anyway it would be nice to know more about the reason why and if it is a temporary thing or not :slightly_smiling_face:

Just need to confirm, did you submit a passport or any ID for a country other than Netherlands?

Thank you @SmartyAadi , I can see it in the even logs indeedn. My rewards wallet got disconnected on 2022-10-16 at 19:19:28.
After that I tried to verify it again but getting the Region not supported error

@Saoiray , I submitted the same official ID that I used when I initially signed up with Uphold.
This was a few weeks ago and I have no issues in using Uphold itself. It is just the Brave wallet verification that is no longer working due to the country no longer being supported. According to the Uphold support it is not a restriction of Uphold but from Brave and they could not give me any information about it.

Maybe @SaltyBanana or @steeven have any information about why there is a restriction?

The restriction is indeed from brave’s side. The supported countries are listed here . If you’re not in one of them then that explains the error

You’re not confirming. Is that ID that you used from the Netherlands? I’m trying to force you to answer because someone else spoke like you and made us go in circles, only to find out the ID they used was from a different country. So I have learned that just because somebody wants to use the phrase in that they “submitted an official ID,” “updated all their information,” or anything of the sort… it means absolutely nothing if they cannot say the specific words of what country their passport or photo ID is from that was used for KYC/AML.

Well then, it was just there. Interesting…

And yeah, @ksathral it’s like what @SmartyAadi mentioned. They updated one resource but not the other. If you check out the list, Netherlands vanished.

Apologies I thought that it was clear but yes the ID is a official ID from the Netherlands.
Anyway thank you for the update. I was not aware that it had been changed since July.

I have been able to verify my wallet on my other device on 2022-09-08 so I guess the restriction wasn’t fully implemented yet until now.

OK. I just said we had other people who spoke the same way and it turned out different. I had been hoping that’s what it was. However, in that same token this past week was my birthday and I haven’t been spending as much time on Brave Community as I normally do. But it seems like while I have not been paying much attention, some things changed. Such as we just pointed out that the Netherlands is not on Brave’s supported countries. That means that you will not be able to link to Uphold, and therefore won’t be able to withdraw your BAT until/unless Brave starts supporting Netherlands again.

No problem! Also whenever you have any region unsupported problems in the future, please go the website I mentioned and check if your region is listed there. That helps us save time on questions which have already been answered innumerably!

I actually went to that website since it was linked on the error page but I got confused by the information of the new account restriction of the uphold page that is linked below it. I thought it was in regards to brave reward verification and didn’t notice it was about the Uphold service itself
