Description of the issue:
Today I’m having, since the time I openned the browser program in the morning, the issue of automatically refreshing. An example: I’m watching a video on youtube and suddenly everytaps are refreshed and the video goes to the beginning. This is really awful.
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3. 0 steps. Just automatically.
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!): Anything to reproduce
Expected result: Stop the autorefreshing
Reproduces how often: Every 20 or 30 minutes;
Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu): Windows 11 / Brave v 1.65.114
This just started happening to me today as well. Not sure if an update happened or what. But i’m on 1.65.114
But now all my tabs get refreshed randomly, so if I have youtube vids paused on other tabs they all start playing… it’s incredibly annoying. Oh and if i’m watching a youtube video when the refresh happens it starts the video from the beginning
The same thing is happening to me. I’m finding that it’s happening to people using Chrome also and since Brave is basically Chrome at it’s core I believe it has something to do with that.
Noticed the same for about the last 24-48h. (wasn’t tracking it specifically)
Chrome and Brave were in use, it was especially noticeable since all previously viewed and thereafter paused tabs started to play automatically after refresh. All (in this case video) tabs that were unaccessed since boot were unaffected.
Weird to hear this also extends to other platforms or whatever.
Most certainly not the case! Using the underlying Chromium engine is inherently different than being the “same as” using/being Chrome. More information on that here:
Can everyone here encountering this issue please confirm that they’re using Windows OS and not macOS or Linux? If Windows, what version are you using? Lastly, can you please confirm/list any extensions being used at this time?
I disabled them all and it appears to have solved the issue. I’ve now enabled all the other non adblock extensions and so far so good, so one of them seems to be the culprit.
It looks like Brave’s inherent adblock is working again so I can just leave the extensions disabled.
It’s odd then that it’s happening to Chrome and Brave users. And besides I never said “same as”. I said “basically Chrome at it’s core” which the article you linked backs up with “These deviations we make that touch the core Chromium code are done via patching.” among others and that’s all I was implying, that the refresh conflict might be related to the Chromium core that Chrome and Brave both share since users of both are having the same issue.
@pureblood,
Glad to hear it — I will leave this thread open a bit longer in case the issue reoccurs. Additionally if you want to re-enable some of the extensions and tell us which one was causing the issue, that information could be useful.
This is still happening Version 1.66.110 Chromium: 125.0.6422.60 (Official Build) (64-bit). Brave has also become insanely slow even without extensions. I also have to often reload pages for some of my adons to work and pretty frequently the previous page button doesn’t work. It reloads the current page and and only after refreshing does it go to the previous page. Also, the downloads thing not working was never fixed. This reload thing is the final nail in the coffin, Brave has become unusable.
I haven’t had the issue before, and it’s been maybe 2 weeks? That randomly YouTube gets stuck for .5 seconds and gets refreshed as a whole. The video does not start from the beginning for me (and other pages are fine), but it happens when for some reason can’t buffer the current resolution of the video and needs to change, instead of just changing within the player refreshes the whole page.
Perhaps this is completely different, but I feel it’s somewhat related. Latest official build, Brave is fully updated. Windows 11, updated as well.
This refresh nonsense is destroying my experience. Ill be on one tab and it disappears and moves me to another one. Or it will refresh and completely back out of a login. I will have to do the whole thing over again and again. Its maddening!! I have reset all settings to default and turned off all extensions and it persists. This looks to be a month old and not fixed? Ill have to use another browse. Brave is unusable.
I’ve had the problem several times this year on Mac OS. Since the last update, it’s practically between 10 and 30 minutes… apparently for no reason. I’ve removed the extensions. Other solutions?
Can I please get a count of how many of you are still encountering this issue after the update to the latest build (1.67.123 at the time of writing this)?
