I was fooling around with the settings a week ago and changed something that now makes Brave log me out of most websites if I shut it down. It doesn’t log me out if the browser remains open.
How can I stop this?

Sounds like you have it sex to clear On Exit. Go to brave://settings/clearBrowserData and check the On Exit tab. Make sure nothing is selected there.
