Brave removed ALL my saved passwords and logs me out of all sites randomly

Just like the title says, randomly after shutting down brave, I will use it again later that day or the next week, and the cache and all of my passwords are gone. The browser retains my bookmarks and my other settings just fine.

Im on Windows 11.

@woodrikj

@woodrikj most likely you have one of two things going on.

  1. You have something that has corrupted your encryption key. You can see more about this at https://support.brave.app/hc/en-us/articles/29808985123085-Sensitive-data-storage. They only give like one small example of what could cause it, but there could be any number of things in updates.

  2. You have something in the browser or on your device deleting the data.
    A. Sometimes it’s 3rd party stuff like CCleaner or Avast Cleaner, but anything meant to free up space or improve memory.
    B. Other times it’s due to things like having it set to delete passwords On Exit from the delete browsing data part. If you have selected this via the parts marked in red below, then it would be deleting every time you exit Brave.

@289wk Backing it up isn’t a solution to the problem. It shouldn’t be behaving that way.

@Saoiray I reinstalled brave completely, so i will see if that somehow helps. But everything in option 2 is not true in my case. I don’t have a third party cleaner or extension. I also have nothing checked for “on exit”.

Its also random, its not every time i exit the app or reboot my PC or at any specific time, so This leads me to believe its a bug of sorts. It also started happening after the last update fixing the program not opening.

Ill see if the re-install helps or not. I have all of these passwords backed up, but its tedious to be logged out of sites, and having to reimport all the passwords etc. So hoping the reinstall fixes it.

If not I’ll reply again here.

@woodrikj sounds good. Btw, on the reinstall, did you make sure to tell it to delete the data when you uninstalled? Asking because otherwise it wouldn’t be any different than if you hadn’t uninstalled at all. I’m talking about the prompt that comes up below.

If you did that, then hopefully whatever is wonky got fixed. If issue persists, will have to figure out what might be. It’s weird that you’re saying it’s completely at random. There should be something…
