I’m using a 5th Gen iPad with 128 memory. Facebook mobile loads ok with Brave, ads are blocked as they should be, but after displaying 20 or so pages, the incoming stream grinds to a halt. Browser becomes Unresponsive. Have to restart Brave to get the stream going again. Is this an issue with Brave not properly emptying memory during the Facebook stream? Using latest version of Brave. iPad OS version 16.7.8
Having 20+ Facebook pages open at a time sounds like a chore for both the browser and the OS.
If you launch another browser and have just as many tabs open, do you see the same behavior?
Not 20 Facebook instances at the same time…. I meant that I have paged through 20 pages on the single FB instance, single stream.
Chrome doesn’t freeze this way. But of course Chrome isn’t remove the ads either.
By “pages”, I mean it’s a single instance of Facebook, and I’m reading my Facebook stream. Brave successfully removes the ads as it should, but stream updates gradually slow until Brave freezes, becomes unresponsive. Have to close Brave and restart reading Facebook again to restart the stream. It seems like Brave is consuming memory, and not freeing it up in real time.
Chrome doesn’t slow down or freeze in the same situation, but then Chrome isn’t removing the ads either.
@RogerH,
Have you tried clearing cache/browsing data for Facebook on the device? Menu --> Settings --> Brave Shields & Privacy --> Manage website data
I cleared the cache. I have all Clear Private Data items enabled except the private playlist items. Clearing the cache help a little, was able to read maybe 50 articles before the same stream slowdown and unresponsive browser situation occurred again. So that seems to confirm that available memory is the issue.
To clarify: I suspect that Brave is not freeing up memory fast enough after a Facebook article has been read. Therefore eventually consuming all available memory so that Facebook can no longer read new pages.
