Brave crashing constantly since approx 2 weeks ago

Hi,

Recently, Brave has become nearly unusable from crashing. I get tab crashes randomly as well as complete crashes of brave itself multiple times a day, sometimes after even less than an hour.

It occurs regardless of if I’m using private sessions or not, I’ve tried disabling all extensions, disabled hardware acceleration, updated windows and brave (and nvidia drivers) to the latest versions, none of which have had any effect.

I’ve also been sending crash reports, as follows:

b9880a00-c244-490a-0000-000000000000

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19045.3086]
Version 1.52.126 Chromium: 114.0.5735.133 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additionally, I have ran MemTest86 repeatedly on the machine to ensure it’s not a memory/hardware issue. It has completed 10 passes without error.

Please advise!

Warmly,
Lenore

Hi,

Brave continues to crash many times a day - since my prior post I’ve had at least 20 crashes. It doesn’t seem to crash on my other devices, and no other apps crash on this device. I’ve also tried (again) running windows update and nvidia driver update to no avail. I’m currently averaging around 6 crashes a day, most of which are fully to desktop and a few of which are within the tab.

I’ve added the following crash dumps:

Hi there,

Not trying to be annoying about this, but please find below another list of uploaded crash dumps since my last message 4 days ago. Any help or suggestions you could offer would be appreciated, I really do not wish to stop using Brave on this machine but I get so many crashes every day it’s almost unusable. Brave still remains stable on my other machines and until a few weeks before my original post Brave almost never crashed.

I’ve tried fully uninstalling/reinstalling to no avail. I really don’t understand why it’s become so unstable and why 90%+ of the crashes I get occur when I’m not even at the keyboard (it seems like every time I look away from brave it’s crashed out when I return)

Additionally, I’m getting an increasing number of in-tab crashes (vs. full crashes to desktop) it seems to be worse when browsing video-embedded sites such as CNN, Twitter, BlueSky.app, Youtube, etc but I don’t have enough information to say this for sure yet.

Would it be possible for a developer to at least indicate to me based on the crashes which libraries/modules the crash is occurring in so I can inspect my system accordingly?

Are debug symbols available anyplace to the public? I’ve attempted to inspect the crash dumps locally in visual studio, however without any symbols I’m sadly unable to exact any insight into why this issue is occurring.

Warmly,
Lenore

Hi there,

Wanted to update the thread and mention that I’ve also replaced my RAM and re-ran memtest86 successfully, but the issue persists.

Warmly,
Lenore
