Brave crashes if loading a specific URL

If I open Brave with the following link (pretty normal page - a page talking about SVG elements on mozilla.org) open in a tab, Brave crashes almost immediately (about a fourth of a second or so - seems to be triggered by something that loads from the page). The only way I could continue using Brave was to immediately use the ctrl+W hotkey to close the tab before it loaded.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Try to open the above link.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
Brave just crashes.

Expected result:
Shouldn’t crash

Reproduces how often:
Every time.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS (using Regolith)
Brave Version 1.68.128 Chromium: 127.0.6533.73 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Hello @syriven

it work fine here using rocky linux 9.4 here my notice

  1. update your browser as the current version is 1.68.137

  2. try to check this link on private mode and see if it work or not ? if yes then the issue could be with your cache/cookies or one of your browser extension causing the issue so either clear your cache/cookies or disable all extensions then renable them one by one till you get the one causing it

hope that help and have a nice day

Okay, I updated Brave to the latest version (1.68.137), and this didn’t help. However, the link does not crash a private window. So you’re probably right it’s a cache issue.

When I disable all extensions, the crash still happens in a normal window. This seems like quite a noteworthy bug? It shouldn’t be the case that any combination of cache contents and pages loading should crash Brave, when no extensions are enabled.

Can I provide some kind of crash report or something to help diagnose?

did you tried to clear cache or cookies or not?and what time range you choose?

i am a user same as you so you should not share any crash report with normal user only with team member and in private chat as i do not know how much private info it has in the log
team member has icon same as this one https://community.brave.com/u/mattches/summary

by the way they just released new update 1.68.141 so give it a try

hope that help and have a nice day

@syriven you should upload it directly. This is done by having the option to automatically send diagnostic reports enabled. This setting can be found at brave://settings/privacy

To make sure it’s uploaded, go to brave://crashes and you should see a list of recent crashes. I just forced a crash so I can give an example.

If you go there and see Send Now like you do in the screenshot above, then you will need to click the Send Now button and exit Brave for roughly 30 seconds or so. When you open Brave and return to brave://crashes, it should then look something like below:

You would then generally copy and paste (not screenshot) the Uploaded Crash Report ID to your issue and Support could look into it and potentially give you some feedback. But at the very least, uploading gets it to the dev teams.

And as justsomeone1 mentioned, if it’s working in a private window then it shoul dbe cookies or extensions.

Just to confirm, you are saying you cleared cookies? I know you mentioned cache and I want to see if perhaps speaking of the same thing or something different. In addition, would like to ask which method you used to clear cookies/cache?
