Description of the issue: While dragging a selectable page element (text, a link, or an image, for instance), Brave will occasionally crash without warning and will not respond until it is force closed. Restarting it allows one to click the button to restore their session as normal after a crash.
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3. Repeatedly drag text, links, and images around a single webpage until the browser crashes: hold down left mouse on a link, drag it some distance (not into a form or the URL bar, just somewhere on the page), and let go. Repeat. Seems to reproduce both on regular and private tabs.
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
Window capture via OBS (note that it doesn’t show the text being grabbed or the window crash, but I’ve attached a screenshot of the final crash state after the GIF)
@NAVOR It’s currently the weekend, so it might be a while before anyone can get back to you. That said, it would help if you can go to brave://crashes and provide Uploaded Crash Report ID from some of your crashes. One thing to stress, we need the Uploaded Crash Report ID, not the Crash Context.
If you see Send Now when you visit brave://crashes you’ll need to click on it and then close Brave for like 30 seconds so it can upload. When you return, you should see the Uploaded Crash Report ID.
Unfortunately, I only see one crash report from June, so it seems the recent crashes have not generated reports. Every time Brave crashes this way, I typically just click “Close Now” after Windows detects it as “Not Responding.” Should I instead try to reproduce this issue and wait to see if it fully crashes?
As to your questions:
It seems to occur in both Private Tabs and normal tabs. I have not yet been able to reproduce it in a second profile, but I’ll put in a few more attempts over the weekend and hopefully have a more definite “yes” or “no.”
Yes; at least, I haven’t noticed a site that’s immune to the crashes.
