Brave Android Browser Crashing

Starting about 3 or 4 days ago, I would try to open the Brave app on my phone, and it would immediately close, even before displaying any UI. (I’ll add a screenshot. Brave Nightly works just fine, didn’t try the beta.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Tap to open the app
  2. It crashes

The expected result is for the app to work as usual.

Brave Version: 1.73.104

Mobile Device details: Motorola one 5G Ace

Additional Information: Usually lag or lack of functionality comes from when there’s an available update, but far as I can tell I’m up to date. Alternatively it could be the abundance of tabs I have, however I haven’t added more tabs from when it was working to when it stopped.

My standard reply for such situations, is to Clean House.

Back up bookmarks and passwords.

Clear caches etc. - everything except the Passwords.

Be sure to completely close apps.

Disable extensions.

Do a couple, complete shutdowns of the mobile device.

IOW: steam cleaning!

@Kygon can you confirm the version of Android you’re on? Had you recently updated to 1.73.104?

@Kygon can you share your Crash ID?

  1. Open Brave: Launch the Brave browser on your Android device.
  2. Go to Brave Settings: Tap the three vertical dots (⋮) in the top-right corner of the browser window, then select Settings.
  3. Select “Help” or “About Brave”: Scroll down and tap Help or About Brave, depending on your Brave version.
  4. Look for “Crash Reports” or “Diagnostics”: In the Help or About Brave page, look for Crash Reports or Diagnostics. Tap on it.
  5. Find the Crash ID: In the Crash Reports or Diagnostics page, you should see a list of recent crashes. Each crash will have a unique Crash ID associated with it.
  6. Copy the Crash ID: Tap and hold on the Crash ID to copy it. You can then paste it into a support ticket or email to report the issue to Brave.

The following was the Brave Support Request site:

where a user could submit a Crash ID, but that link now only supports Creators, Premium, and Rewards issues.

I’m on Android version 11. I can’t submit a crash id as the app closes before anything is displayed.
