Hello Brave Team,
I’m writing to propose a feature that would greatly enhance user experience and digital well-being for many Brave users:
Please add the ability to block Facebook Reels on Android, either through Brave Shields or as a custom content filtering option.
Why this matters:
Facebook Reels have become a major source of distraction and algorithm-driven content overload. For users who access Facebook via the Brave browser on Android, there is currently no built-in way to block Reels—they are aggressively promoted and hard to ignore.
How this aligns with Brave’s mission:
- Privacy: Reels are often personalized based on user tracking and behavior.
- Control: Users should have the ability to filter out features that harm focus or productivity.
- User-first experience: Brave empowers users. Giving them the option to block Reels fits perfectly.
Possible Implementations:
- Brave Shields enhancement: Add specific blocking rules for Facebook Reels UI elements and associated video delivery scripts.
- Custom filter lists: Let users add custom CSS or JS filters to hide “Reels” sections (similar to uBlock Origin’s element picker).
- Social media cleaner settings: Introduce a Brave Labs or Advanced Settings toggle to suppress short video/reel formats from popular platforms.
Community Value:
This feature would be appreciated by:
- Students and professionals trying to stay focused
- Parents limiting screen time
- Users actively choosing mindful social media consumption
Let’s give people the freedom to choose how they interact with platforms—not just what they block in ads, but also in attention.
Thanks for considering this request.
Let’s keep making Brave the best browser for conscious internet use!
