Arial Bold is displayed as gibberish on MacOS

I experience problems with the display of Arial Bold fonts on MacOS.
In the current version of Brave, Arial Bold seems to be replaced with gibberish.

With the current MacOS build, visiting this page at https://www.cssfontstack.com/Arial should reveal the problem.

I can see the correct text in the Inspect mode, and I can see turning it into correct readable text, when I deactivate the css for Arial bold for that type.

Update:
even typing a search term into the Google search form reveals gibberish.

Replying to myself:

This problem seems to be caused by an macOS update.
Reinstalling the preinstalled (and locked) system fonts from macOS did solve this issue.
