Going to Apple support, closing down a Chrome or Brave browser using the command + Q keyboard quit option does work with “Continue where you left off” option - but using the mouse and closing the browser with the Red “close” button does not.
@Richland, Continue where you left off only applies to applications that are fully “Quit”. In Windows, hitting the x button to “close” the browser effectively does this. On macOS however, clicking the x only closes the window — it does not quit the process. So when you click to open the browser again, you’re essentially opening a new window/tab on the same browser process, rather than “relaunching” the browser.
Yeah, I’ve noticed Apple makes a distinction between closing and quitting.
In MS Windows, Apple’s “closing” would be equivalent to minimizing the Window, which doesn’t close all open tabs. Or it is equivalent to closing the application, which also doesn’t clear all the tabs with “Continue where you left off” Brave option on.
When you are new to Apple OS, you don’t even know how to quit the application, because there is no GUI way to do so, although there probably should be - I know wrong board.
Consider this one vote for make it stop that please, like update the button for Apple OS to include quit and close are treated the same.
While I do understand your frustration, there’s unfortunately no way for (us) to do this. This is a system function (related specifically to the way the OS handles apps/windows), not a browser function. As such, it would have to be changed on the OS level.
Note that one way you can workaround this is to simply use cmd + Q to quit the browser fully, rather than just close it as is done with the red x button.
