I used to watch youtube in brave browser while locking my android phone screen rotation at portrait. It will automatically change to landscape full screen when i press the full screen botton on the bottom right of the video. Now suddenly, when i press that button, the video become portrait like the image and not adjusted automatically. It is really annoying having to adjust screen lock for this. Anyone know how to return it to be automatic like before?
@Nickchandra,
Can you please confirm for me what version of the browser you’re using as well as the device type?
To confirm the steps, you’re saying that you hit the full screen button first, then rotate the phone to trigger the view to turn horizontal, but instead it stays in portrait (as shown in your screenshot)?
@Mattches
Brave 1.63.165, Chromium 122.0.6261.94
Device: Samsung S22
No it usually rotate to full screen landscape automatically even though my phone is on portrait. But now it stays like the picture and i have to adjust my phone’s screen rotation to make it landscape
So if you were watching the video as shown in your screenshot, then turned the phone horizontally, the video wouldn’t turn with it?
If that’s the case, do you see this issue if you were to use another browse as well?
Yes, same problem occurs in chrome but not in samsung internet browser. Also, just seen someone posting exactly the same problem
This may be a Chromium issue then — however, I unfortunately cannot reproduce the issue on my end. Also using Brave v1.63.165 on a Samsung Galaxy S22.
Might seem strange but as a test, can you please try turning the phone horizontal before opening the video, then tapping to stream it, then the fullscreen button?
If the phone is on landscape setting before then the fullscreen mode will also be landscape and fine
It happened after last update. 1.63.169
the same problem is also happening with me since yesterday!
Same here, happened yesterday… Please get it fixed!
Yup, same here, since yesterday on samsung a52s5g…
I have a downgraded version of brave from half a year ago and somehow got this problem since yesterday
Dear Brave Support Team,
Please understand the steps to reproduce this:
Keep the auto-rotate of any mobile device in off state. (Normally this is how most users keep their phone to be easily accessible vertically.)
Play any video on YouTube inside brave browser holding your phone vertically (normal way of vertically holding any phone) and click on full-screen icon at the bottom right corner.
Until few days ago, upon clicking on full-screen icon, the video would automatically rotate horizontally and continue to play in full-screen mode.
But now, when we click on full-screen icon, with same settings as above, the video just goes to full-screen vertically without automatically rotating the full-screen to horizontal full-screen view.
This is the fundamental reason for most people to use Brave on their mobile phones. Ad-free, auto-rotating horizontal full-screen mode even when auto rotate of phone is off.
Version details: Latest brave browser version on both iPhone, Android devices with latest OS.
Note: I’ve tried it with almost 20+ devices (my colleagues’ phones) of both iPhone and Android phones running latest updated OS version and latest updated brave browser version too.
I know this issue existed in iOS brave browser from a long time… but now this issue has surfaced in Android phones running brave browser too. Please resolve this issue as mentioned above for Android phones first. It’s such a big mess right now in any Android phones running brave browser.
(If this is not understanding enough to troubleshoot or reproduce the issue yourselves and figure out a solution… then you must be pretending to dodge this issue or escape resolving this critical situation.)
Happened to me too, version 1.63.169. Videos doesn’t automatically go in full-screen, they stay in portrait mode. A lot of browsers like google and other ad blockers I’ve tested today have this problem
I have the same exact problem, starting a few days ago.
The only reason I have Brave on my phone is because I want to be able to watch full screen Youtube videos in Landscape uninterrupted. If that’s no longer an option, I’ll remove the browser from my phone.
Samsung Galaxy A15 SG, Brave 1.63.169, Chromium 122.0.6261.111
Note this is almost certainly a Chromium issue, as the problem occurs on all chromium browsers – chrome, brave, kiwi, etc – but does not occur on Firefox. Also is limited to android since iOS chrome/brave are actually webkit, not chromium. It started yesterday afternoon - 3/8/24.
So it’s not Brave per se, but hopefully the support folks here are able to engage the appropriate devs at google to address. It’s annoying. Auto-rotate is inconvenient for a lot of people including myself.
If there is more necessary I can confirm the same problem YouTube related only.
To me it seems like there was a change in YouTube player (the buttons look different), that caused the problem.
Brave 1.63.169 MIUI 14, Android 12
Its also with me.
Same problem
Same problem with me also, i even updated the app still the issue persists
