Why is Uphold ripping off Brave Rewards?

I have made the mistake of using Uphold. I attempted to move my BAT to a secure wallet. Uphold took a substantial chunk of my BAT just to do this. Is there another guardian who is cheaper than Uphold to get and move BATs?

this has more to do with ethereum on chain fees than uphold.

not aware of any custodian that supports bat on any other chain currently.

on the plus side, on chain direct rewards are coming to everyone soon on solana.

Let me ask, are you not familiar with gas fees and all? How much did you even move and possess? For example, last I looked, Uphold has a $0.99 transaction fee for anything less than $100 USD value. So you would have had that along with gas. Current gas fees on ETH are around $3, give or take, which you can track at https://etherscan.io/gastracker

Self custody you mean? Because Uphold is a secure wallet.

No other custodial partners really. And Brave is trending toward on chain payments instead. Uphold for most countries, BitFlyer for Japan, and ZebPay for India. Those are pretty much custodial options. No clue when or if Gemini will be up and running for Rewards again.

Thanks for the information. NOW who gets $100 in BAT and how often? It seems to me Brave Rewards can pick a custodian who offers a better transaction fee, or where one holds their own keys.

Frankly, it seems silly that one has to lose one or two months’ worth of Brave Reward BAT payouts just to move their BAT to a secure wallet.

This will go straight to whichever Wallet you want, even Brave Wallet. And Solana fees are a lot cheaper than Ethereum. As such, we’re all quite excited about it. Things just are slow moving and eventually getting there.

Thing is, nobody has a timeline on when it will be available for everyone. They are doing small test batches now and will gradually be sending invites to people to join the on chain Rewards. It is being worked on though.
