Websites won't load since recent update?

Hi, I recently updated my browser about 3 or more weeks ago, I think, and since then nearly every page I try to launch will not launch, something about it needs JAVA, OR it opens but content is missing and buttons/links don’t work. The way to get them working is to turn off my Shields.

Also, pages seem to load slower than before too.
