Wallet popup on launch

Description of the issue:

When I launch Brave, I get a window popup asking me to enter my KDE Wallet details. Sometimes when I click cancel Brave will launch (usually the first time), but after the first time I click cancel it no longer launches Brave until I reboot my machine.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

Not sure how others could reproduce this, it’s happened before but at the time I was actually using KDE Plasma on Linux Mint (currently on CachyOS using hyprland with no KDE packages installed). But for me to reproduce it I just need to launch Brave.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Expected result:

No popup and Brave to open

Reproduces how often:

Every time I launch Brave I get the KDE Wallet popup, but Brave only stops working after the first time.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):

CachyOS with hyprland DE/WM, latest version of Brave, can’t give a version number as I am unable to launch Brave.

Additional Information:

It’s asking me about KDE Wallet, but I don’t even have or use KDE and/or KDE Wallet. I have searched through Brave://flags with the term “wallet” and disabled every option that mentions it, even set Default (disabled) to disabled, still pops up when I launch Brave.

@Terminalz I’m limited on knowledge surrounding Linux but let me make sure that we’re on the same page in terms of understanding things here. Brave relies on OS keyring like Gnome or KDE Wallet for encryption of your passwords and all. When you launch, Brave is going to need access. If you don’t have default access for Brave, it will make a request. This also will occur if you have it launch Brave before it does your keyring. An example of this last statement is below:

I’m at least stating this as a starting point just in case any of it guides you to something that makes sense and can resolve. Otherwise we’ll have to hold out for Mattches or someone more familiar with things to guide you along.

Hey Saoiray, thanks for your time. With you mentioning keyrings, I refreshed mine to see if that helped, but no joy. As I mentioned I don’t have any KDE packages installed, but it was fine earlier today, this issue only started a couple hours ago. I decided to run brave from a terminal to see what that would say:

I have no idea what this means, but Chromium browser works just fine, although I would prefer to use Brave

Let me try to tag in @Mattches in hopes he can follow up with you later. I believe he should be back tomorrow, but then he’ll be playing catch up on support tickets and issues. So might need to give it a day or two, but hopefully can have some ideas when he sees this.

Hello! Do you have the #native-brave-wallet flag set to disabled? Thanks for confirming.

Hey Evan, I went through all of Brave://flags with “wallet” in the search field and set everything to disabled:

Still asks me when I launch, oh but whilst it’s open now cos I’ve rebooted since yesterday, the version number is:

Version 1.66.115 Chromium: 125.0.6422.112 (Official Build) (64-bit)

You know, it might have something to do with my desktop environment and/or nvidia drivers.

Currently using Hyprland (wayland) with the beta 555 nvidia drivers, but also on the other hand, Chromium works fine. It’s really weird lol

Has to be my installation that is bugged, I just don’t know how to fix it, I was playing with Archlinux on a separate drive, trying to get hyprland and nvidia 555 installed, all went well, been trying for 3 days lol…anyway, after installing Brave it all worked fine, no KDE Wallet window popup. I tried to use my current Brave .config folder in Arch and Brave wont load. I booted back in to my CachyOS install and renamed my Brave .config folder and the Wallet popup happens.

So frustrating lol

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Brave multiple times but that doesn’t fix it, I have a feeling some package I have on CachyOS is conflicting with Brave but I have no idea which. I am just gonna leave it for now, as long as I do not close Brave during my session I am fine, and if I do I just have to reboot.

I have reinstalled my OS and re-setup Brave, installed most of the packages I need and it still hasn’t come back, fingers crossed! If it returns I will come back and mention what I have changed since now  Thnx for the replies.
