Yesterday i was using my brave browser on my PC normally, without any probleme, i turned off my computer normally, but today when i tried to launch it it said me “the file or directory is damaged and unreadable”.
Nothing unusual to notice, everything else is working fine…
Expected result:
I really need to recover it, with the favourite and every applications installed with it !
Brave Version( check About Brave):
In the Windows installed application on Brave app there is writted the version is 121.1.62.165, I’m actually using it on windows 10 x64
@InSaFURAX could you go to brave.com/download and try to download/install again? To be clear, I don’t want you to uninstall but only to install on top. This will be a manual patch that might fix any issues you had and hopefully will keep all your data.
Not sure when you are saying you tried this. You spoke as if you had been using with no issues and then today had a problem. I know they had a patch that rolled out in the last 24 hours. So I’m wondering if your computer had an issue with this update and it ended up corrupted.
So if not done today, it would be worth it to see if things might work okay.
Installing on top would not cause the loss of data. The question is what corruption you have where it’s saying is damaged, it is not possible to know if any data already is lost or damaged…if any. As long as the information is still in your User Data folder of \brave-browser it should all be fine.
That said, if you uninstall, it could wipe data or force you to start with a new profile. This is why the suggestion was that you do not uninstall but just merely do a manual patch by installing on top of your current browser. If anything was broken, it should be fixed this way.
I did absolutely nothing since i got this error! i supposed its because of the patch you’re talking about, and hope this solution will fix this issue!
So, just have to go on the download page, download it, and install it normally above the actual one ? want to be sure to do the things correctly :)!

before to do this, i just copied the repertory of brave software in C:\Program Files, and also the same folder in User/Appdata/local, maybe it can be usefull ?
