Tabs often do not render when switched to

Description of the issue:
When I am in a tab group on tab A and switch to tab B, I still see the contents of A and not B. No matter how long I wait it will not change. These tabs were already loaded minutes ago

When I switch back to A and then back to B (3 tab switches in total, A > B (A still displayed) > A > B) then the contents of B finally displays

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Have a tab group with all tabs loaded
  2. Spend some time on tab A
  3. Try to switch to another tab

Of course it doesn’t happen every time, I don’t know what’s the exact root cause or criteria

Expected result:
When I switch to tab B I should immediate see contents of tab B, when I they switch to tab C I should immediately see the contents of tab C, without having to do the “switch back and forth” thing.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave 1.76.80, Chromium 134.0.6998.118

Additional Information:
Android 14; Build/UP1A.231005.007

No guarantee of that. Many things working well, can help.

Sorry, I have no clue what you’re trying to say

Potential hurdles that may prolong or snag proceedings:

  • autofill (URL address; search field)
  • barely-noticed network issues
  • bookmarks (autofill)
  • Brave Browser New Window
  • Brave Shields Settings
  • cache (“bad”/stale)
  • hCAPTCHA(Cloudflare) / reCAPTCHA(Google)
  • Cloudflare
  • cookies sources (blocked)
  • DNS cache (“bad”/stale"
  • extension(s) conflict
  • Google “ecosystem” (all-in-one Google account hurdles)
  • hardware issues
  • history (autofill)
  • HTTP auto-upgrade to HTTPS (enabled)
  • javascript (blocked; or Globally not blocked)
  • javascript memory leak(s)
  • malware
  • pre-fetch / prefetch
  • shared clipboard (autofill)
  • site data (some: stale?)
  • un-noticed DNS issues
  • update / upgrade bugs
  • website actions to cause pre-activity

Suggestions

Limit the maximum number of Tabs to 10.

Routinely clear cache, cookies, browing history.

Keep the workload of your computing device, as light as you can → better “horsepower to weight ratio”

Do Not remain “logged in” anywhere.

Every week at the minimum:

And, of course, maintain a routine of backing up your data.

For me this an Android-exclusive issue, which should rule out many of the hurdles

As I stated the pages are already loaded, Brave just doesn’t bring them up from memory on the first try, so it rules out all network-related issues

I have Samsung S22 Ultra which should still be in the upper tier in performance among phones

Also as I stated it doesn’t happen always, those other times it works correctly

And I reiterate it’s not an issue of “delay” or waiting, the screen will simply not update to the new tab at all, even after 5 minutes of waiting. But if I switch back and forth again it’s displayed immediately as it should

Most often I noticed it with moxfield.com and scryfall.com

I’m sorry but the suggestions are something that I’d expect to be relevant in year 2000, not 2025. Are you saying that Brave on a previous flagship phone can’t handle 10 tabs and nothing else running on the device and you can’t be logged in anywhere? That would speak very poorly of the browser. In Google Play it claims “Brave is a fast web browser!” And “Get a lightning fast, safe and private web browser”

I understand the issue might be complicated, I’m trying to supply all info I’ve been able to think of so far

IMHO, Firefox, Safari, and the Chromium-engined Internet browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave Browser, etc.) are all Research & Development (“R&D”) prototypes . . . not finished products.

Not even Apple’s Safari, is a perfect fit for Apple hardware.

Performance that a user somehow expects, can require tuning: hardware, software, electronics, networks, etc.

This is not tuning, this is a BUG, the target tab will never display (or not withing a timeframe that anybody is willing to wait, like hours … I wasn’t planning to test for that long)

What are you indenting on achieving with this reply? I am trying to help this browser be improved, it’s the purpose of the Feedback section

I’ll try to describe in different words

1st attempt:
I switch from tab A to tab B and wait, it’s still either showing contents of A or a blank page … even after 10 minutes it’s still showing contents of A or a blank page

2nd attempt:
I try again the next day

I switch from tab A to tab B, it’s still showing contents of A or a blank page BUT this time I don’t wait, I switch back to A and immediately back to B … and now voila - the contents of B display immediately. Suddenly there’s no issue
