Sync PC to mobile - option to scan sync code not shown

ON PC I have Brave sync showing my PC (this device) in a chain.
I want to sync my mobile.
The instructions say go to my mobile - settings - sync (under advanced).
Then click “scan sync code”. This option is not there. It shows my mobile device
(this device) in red and below that says “add new device”.

I have scanned codes several times on my mobile but nothing happens afterwards.
I have degress so not totally dumb but just cant follow the instructions explicity enough to succeed.
Others must be doing it ok?.

The option to scan the QR code or enter the codes is not anywhere on my iPad. It only gives me th option to setup a new device. I was able to do it on my android phone no problem but notipad. Please help.
