Search only showing results from the same day

Description of the issue:

The browser history search is not working. For past several days, the browser history search only shows results from the same day and here is no trace of any other day’s work. Sometimes if I need to search history around midnight, there is nothing at all! This is a big problem for me.

How can this issue be reproduced?

I am not sure how and why this is happening so I can only list my experience here.

  1. Go to browser history page
  2. Type a keyword for history search
  3. Results show just the current date (For example, all my results for today are only, even though I have been viewing site(s) with the associated keyword for over 3 weeks now.)

Expected result:

It should links from all the dates when I have visited sites with those keywords.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Version 1.39.120 Chromium: 102.0.5005.99 (Official Build) (x86_64)

Have you checked your settings at brave://settings/clearBrowserData? If not, you should check if you have Browsing History checked to clear “On exit”. If you want to keep your Browsing History, just uncheck the box and save. Posted snaps below for reference.

I am adding to what @Chocoholic just wrote . . .

In order to NOT clear 'Browsing History`:

In a Brave Browser > New Window, go to: brave://settings/clearBrowserData

For tab On exit - set:

  • Disable: Browsing History

Click on the ‘Save’ button.

Return to: brave://settings/clearBrowserData

For tab Advanced - set:

  • Time range:All time
  • Disable: Browsing history

Click on the ‘Clear data’ button.

(The ‘Clear data’ button also saves the selections.)

Return to: brave://settings/clearBrowserData

For tab Basic - set:

  • Time range:All time
  • Disable: Browsing history

Click on the ‘Clear data’ button.

PS. There will be occasions when you need to clear ‘Browsing History’ for ‘All time’:

Go to: brave://settings/clearBrowserData

For tab Advanced - set:

  • Time range:All time
  • Enable: Browsing history
  • Enable: Download history
  • Enable: Cookies and other site data (Signs you out of most sites)
  • Enable: Cached images and files
  • Enable: Passwords and other sign-in data (When Enabled DELETES PASSWORDS)
  • Enable: Autofill form data
  • Disable: Site and Shields Settings (When Enabled DELETES Shields Settings and RESTORES default: Shields UP for site-specific Shields [Lion icon] panel)
  • Enable: Hosted app data

Click on the ‘Clear data’ button.

(The’Clear data’ button also saves the selections.)

Hi, thank you for the response but I checked it and there is absolutely nothing checked on my end in case of the Exit settings.

Try increasing Brave cache as explained in the post below by CerealLover.

PS. Also check this: open “brave://settings/system”, and check “Continue running background apps when Brave is closed”
