Pressing back closes tabs on android

Description of the issue:
When I press the back button on the bottom of my screen, if there is no previous page to go back to, the tab is closed. I have accidentally closed several tabs this way before I realized what was happening. Is this behavior expected?

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open brave browser on android.
  2. Navigate to any URL from the address bar.
  3. Press the back button on your phones navigation.

Expected result:
The browser closes without closing the tab
