Passwords gone on browser exit even though passwords not checked for clearing

Like the title says. I have clear browser history on exit and passwords are not checked. Still i have to sign in to everything when i start the browser every time. I think its the cookies i added to clear out on exit, but should that delete my saved passwords? If thats true then why have a separation between cookies and passwords?
