NOTICE: Unexplained Data Loss Issue

This response is Transferred over from initial thread I posted a couple days ago.

  1. Running Windows 11Pro 64-bit ver 22H2 / Exper pack 1000.22674.1000.0
  2. Brave - 1.60.110 / Chromium 119.0.6045.105
  3. Lost all (and only) user name/password data about/after 10/25/2023 - realized on 10/31 PW data was no longer there
  4. No crash, no system restart
4a) I generally leave the Brave Browser open with about 8 tabs open, then put my laptop to “Sleep” when done using.
4b) When I opened Brave after waking computer, I went to my Gmail tab opened & I was logged out. When I tried to log into my Credit Union page, UN/PW didn’t auto-populate within login page. This is when I discovered there were no passwords saved in my Brave Browser settings.
  5. Yes to auto-saving user name/password within Brave Settings (have never turned it off)
  6. Brave Sync - YES on 2 Android devices - Galaxy S22 Ultra SM-S908U1 (Android 13 / TP1A.220624.014 - Brave version 1.60.110 / 119.0.6045.105) & Galaxy Tab S6 T867V.04 (Android 12/ SP2A.220305013 - Brave version 1.59.124 / 18.0.5993.117)- passwords do NOT show up on either device - all other data remains, such as bookmarks, etc.
  7. NO on Clear Browsing Data - nothing is checked within “upon Exit” & I have not cleared out any browsing history, cache, etc. on my own. Same for all devices

I have used iCare Data Recovery on Win Pro11 laptop & can see (or so I believe) the most recent website that I had saved with UN/PW (saved on 10/23/23) within the Login Data (when opening in Notepad), however, when I copy the file to the User Data\Default file in the BraveSoftware file on hard drive, then open Brave & passwords, nothing shows up - like it’s not reading the file. However, if I copy/paste the Login Data file from the Microsoft Edge files, then open up Brave, I can see/retrieve those old passwords.

This may be a “non-trivial” issue to Brave, but for the users of Brave, it is NOT trivial.
Shame on me for not considering backing up all my passwords.
Shame on Brave for dragging feet & not providing a helpful answer other than “you’re out of luck”
