Mouse hover on X stopped working?

Description of the issue:
When I hover my mouse cursor over a user on X, it no longer shows the small popup window that shows more information about the user. I’ve tried this with the Guest profile to verify it wasn’t my extensions messing with it. None of the other hover effects work as well like menu highlights and link underscores.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Go to any X profile, for example, https://x.com/elonmusk?mx=2
  2. Hover over the name of the user on the posts.
  3. The popup thing doesn’t happen.

Expected result:
Something like this should pop up

Brave Version( check About Brave): Version 1.75.175 Chromium: 133.0.6943.54 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
I tried it on Vivaldi and it’s working fine. It was also working fine on my Brave until I restarted my computer which I suppose installed a new update in the background.

Working just fine for me:

Can you try downloading the Beta Build of the browser and try testing the behavior for me there?

Hello, will this overwrite my stable Brave?

Not it will not. It will install as a separate browser and run independently from your stable installation. Once you’ve tested it you’re also welcome to uninstall it as well.

Okay new development, I tried it with a different computer running on the same OS and Brave version and hover works. Wtf, so why would it not work even in the Guest profile?

Can you please test the Beta build and tell me if the issue persists there?

It doesn’t work on the Beta either.

I’ve been having the same issue the last few days and not just on X. Hover in general seems to stop working. The arrow no longer turns to a hand when it’s supposed to and pop up windows like that no longer appear. Links will still work if I click on them though. If I close the browser and restart it will work again for a little while but inevitably stops again.

So far it seems to be happening for me only on X and the interaction buttons under a video on YouTube (Like, Dislike, Share, etc) but the hover on the buttons on the comments area seem to work fine.

Additional info, the Chromium version used by Vivaldi that doesn’t have hover issue seems to be 132.x.x.x

The Chromium version of latest Brave is 133.x.x.x.

The last version of Brave before the current one that (as far as I know) did not have the hover issue, was also 132.x.x.x.

So I don’t know if I’m just grasping at straws here but maybe something broke in 133.x.x.x?

Mouse Hover - Chromium issues:

https://issues.chromium.org/issues?q=status:open%20title:(hover)

I’m also experiencing the cursor being stuck in certain states and randomly going missing when entering certain UI elements.

It seems 133 in general has a lot of annoyance issues like these. I wonder if it’s possible for the Breave team to temporarily roll back to 132.x.x.x until these issues are all ironed out?

Cursor stuck - not much of an issue at Chromium:

https://issues.chromium.org/issues?q=status:open%20title:(cursor%20stuck)

Brave, in the past, has placed a BB update on hold, for a big issue.

I have the same problem under X, with the same version of Brave “Version 1.75.175 Chromium: 133.0.6943.54 (official Build) (64 bits)”.
I also have a problem with the sound on the videos. I can’t modulate the sound. I can only turn it on or off.
Under Firefox everything works.

This is an upstream issue that is expected be fixed soon. We’ve opened this issue to capture more data on it:

Ok.
In my case, I do not have a cursor problem that disappears, just the fact of no more JavaScript interaction (hover) + modulate the sound.
Also I realize that I have to click twice on a video to play it.
All these problems are not random, they are constant.
I hope that all this will be resolved soon.
Otherwise the idea of going back to the previous version while waiting to solve these problems is more than relevant.
Or at least leave that opportunity for those with these problems.

@Zequo can you please try the tests I suggested above in previous replies and confirm your findings here?

Is the cursor disappearing related to the hover state not working properly on some websites like X? On other sites, hover seems to work fine.

I’m having the exact same problem. Started after the last update

Version 1.75.175 Chromium: 133.0.6943.54 (Official Build) (64-bit)

To clarify, since the topic was confused, I’m talking about the original hover text issue not working.
