@mgroves,
Thank you for reaching out and for the detailed report.

On my end, I’m able to have maps find my location when clicking the Show your location button on both Windows 10 and macOS systems. I’m wondering if you’re using a Private browsing window or a Private w/Tor window at this time? Additionally, do you have any extensions installed at this time?

I was using it in a private tab for this repro, but it’s also happening while not in private. And no I’m not using Tor, haven’t tried it with Tor.

I do have extensions installed, but I haven’t added any new extensions recently. I suppose one of them may have had an update that I was unaware of. Is there way for me to identify which one might be causing an issue? Here’s the list from brave://system →

  • Web Store : version 0_2
  • JSONVue : version 0_2_3
  • greaselion-0 : version 1_0
  • GoFullPage - Full Page Screen Capture : version 8_3
  • greaselion-4 : version 1_0
  • EditThisCookie : version 1_6_3
  • greaselion-8 : version 1_0
  • Social Share Preview : version 0_0_1_2
  • Swoosh Cookie and Local Storage Specialist : version 2_2_0
  • LastPass: Free Password Manager : version 4_133_0
  • Add to WishList.com Button : version 2_8
  • greaselion-10 : version 1_0
  • greaselion-6 : version 1_0
  • greaselion-2 : version 1_0
  • Chrome PDF Viewer : version 1
  • Brave : version 1_0_0
  • Capital One Shopping: Save Now : version 0_1_1225

(I posted something with more detail, but it’s been hidden by Akismet)

@mgroves,
Unflagged, sorry about that.
I would wager it’s one of these extensions that is causing the issue. The quickest way to confirm would be to create a temporary profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile), close your original profile (so you only have the new one opeN) and test location services there and see if they work as expected.

That’s a cool feature that I wasn’t aware of, so thank you for letting me know about that.

But sadly, exact same result.

Any other suggestions to help me figure this out?

@mgroves,
To clarify, you closed the original profile window when you performed the test?

Yes indeed. I closed everything else, started over. I also tried in a private window. Nothing :frowning:

@mgroves,
Can you confirm that other browsers are able to detect your location as expected?

(dusts off browsers that I never use anymore)

Uh… what the heck? It’s not working in Edge or Chrome or Firefox either. Why on earth would that happen?

Thanks for checking. Not sure what might be going on here — I thought maybe it’d be a Chromium issue but if it’s not working in Firefox either then perhaps its an issue with your system?

Do you have a VPN you’re connected to when you perform this test by chance?

I occasionally use a VPN, but no, not when I’ve tried this.

Testing https://iplocation.io/my-location (take about 3-4mins to get location)

Not the most accurate, but get a basic location.

Has there been any add’l movement on this? I’m unable to use location on Costco to find a warehouse. I’ve also found location doesn’t work in Google Maps, any delivery service that needs a location to find stores/restaurants near me, etc. I finally logged in on Firefox this morning as I’m trying to price tires for my car, and I’m unable to do that without selecting a location. I tried turning off Brave Shield which didn’t help. I’d really like to figure out what is going on. It’s been happening for a while, I just didn’t really pay attention until I started shopping for tires in early October.

@JennX @mgroves
I know turning off Bluetooth at one point messed up my location features, do you have Bluetooth turned on? If not try turning it on and see if that changes anything :man_shrugging:

found this in another place for a suggestion:
Close Brave
Go to Location privacy settings in windows
Scroll down till you find Location History and click clear
Re-launch your browser, should be fixed now.
