H265 HEVC videos do not play

Brave does not play H265 / HEVC on macOS nor Linux

It has been 5 years since this feature request was suggested and it still hasn’t been implemented. In my experience, almost all videos on the internet used to be H.264 encoded because H.265 did not have widespread support. Because of this most videos would play fine, but occasionally I would encounter an H.265 video that I would have to download to view.
