Updating to the latest Brave version should fix this, without the need to disable the extension.

I still got this error in the latest version of Brave. Setting [Default cryptocurrency wallet] to [none] does the trick for me. No need to disable MetaMask.

fingerprinting standard = default, some sites will break with strict fingerprinting (use at your own risk)
