I would like to resubmit the request for forward and back navigation buttons as options to turn on or off.
I’m coming from an iPhone to an Android device. The device has a slightly curved screen which makes swiping from the left difficult to accomplish when global gesture navigation is chosen. Most often, I wind up tapping on a link or doing something I don’t mean to while attempting to return to a previous page.
Making these buttons as options would keep the interface clean for those that want it but allow the additional navigation aid to those that need/want it.
If I understand correctly, you want the back and forward buttons to be part of the toolbar, rather than just using the Android system’s “back button”?
If so, this would actually increase clutter/reduce real estate on the browser toolbar. This is part of the reason the “forward” button is displayed in the main menu. You’ll notice that just about every other browser – whether or not they have the “forward/back” button buttons as part of their toolbar – also all have the Android system’s back button present. This is useful as it can always be accessed and does not impede or take up an additional space on the toolbar.
I think it would be reasonable in future releases to include a more customizable toolbar in general, where users could decide which four options they would like to include there. But as it stands now, using the system’s “back” button should be a reasonable alternative to the swiping gesture for you.
Gestures can’t be activated/deactivated by app, so the fact that I’m using global gestures instead of the Android on-screen buttons means I don’t have access to that button within Brave. I don’t have that button anywhere.
I would gladly give up a few spaces of the 60 character URL bar for a forward/back option.
However, my Android back button only goes back 1 page at a time. In Android 14 I can’t get the drop down to go back several pages. That feature still works fine on my older Android 10 phone.
