Yes, it is uses the webkit engine.
All browsers on iOS use the webkit engine inlcuding firefox, opera, vivaldi etc.
If you want to use brave with its chromium engine, you cannot do it. Blame apple and next time buy a android or a degoogled android.
Yes it’s webkit under the hood. But we have bunch of custom javascript to help with adblocking and privacy improvements
