Brave crashes randomly when closing tabs:
Steps to reproduce:
1.Open brave
2.Open different tabs
3.Close tabs one by one
The tab should close normally and the next tab should be on screen. Instead all tabs close and the browsers exits. When restarting the browser, the message 'brave didn’t shut down correctly" appears.
Brave Version: Version 0.68.138 Chromium: 77.0.3865.75

I tried to reproduce your problem but my browser never crashed (i opened and closed many tabs in normal and private to test too).
Brave have problem with the sync chain and crash, so maybe it’s linked. If you have a Syncchain on your browser, just delete it and try angain, maybe it can help.
i just had it today, i was ordering a microsoft giftcard and it crashed. then after relauch i closed one of the many microsoft giftcard tab, and that made the entire Browser close. then upon reopening Brave, it tells me it wasnt closed correctly last time and if i want to restore. After restoring i tried to close a couple tabs… and closing one particular tab made the entire browser close again. It happened about 7 8 times before it refuses to restore previous session.
Now i need to restore the previous session! i have not closed Brave yet and will not close it now until someone tells me how to find the last session file and restore it.

it was actually 10 times now that i checked the crashpad folder. 10 dmp reports!

Does the crash happen when you close any random tab, the same number of tabs, or does the crash occur when a specific tab is closed?
Also experiencing a similar issue. When I close 10+ tabs at once (close tabs to the right), Brave crashes instantly.
I’ve been using Brave for some months now. It’s been mostly an issue-free browser; but this new Windows update (or browser update) has really turned this browser to crap (sorry for being blunt).
Was also experience random crashing, but it appears disabling Sync has resolved that issue (a solution on another recent thread).
i was trying to close about 5 or 6 microsoft gift card buying related webpages, and one particular tab gave the most problem when trying to close, other tabs also made browser crash by clicking the x but only once or twice, that one tab was more persistent in making the browser crash. I never experienced something like this before until yesterday.
We just updated to version 0.68.141 today which fixes browser crashes for certain cases – @incognito, can you try closing 10+ tabs again in the same way after updating and see if you get the same behavior?
So far so good. BTW, the crash wasn’t guaranteed – as in, it wasn’t a case of close 10+ tabs right after launching Brave, and crash – but over longer browsing sessions. But just today alone, in cases where I was expecting a crash, it’s been good. I’ll update if the issue comes back.

Hi I am using Ubuntu and this exact same bug has been bothering me since a few days ago when I updated brave browser. Today I updated everything, and this bug happened again, I had opened around 5 tabs and after closing one, whole brave closed. It doesn’t happen always, sometimes it works fine for hours, sometimes it closes after first tab I close. My version of brave is 77.0.68.142. Can you please look into it? Thank you for your support and hard work.
I’m experiencing the same issue. I’m on Fedora 30, and the crashes started happening after the upgrade. I had a crash 5 minutes ago with 3 tabs opened, and brave crashed when closing a tab playing a youtube video. Hope that’s useful.
This keeps happening. It happens when closing tabs both with Ctrl + W or the mouse.

Do you have any extensions installed in the browser? If so you may want to try disabling them to see if this makes any difference. Alternatively, you can open a Private or Guest window session and browse normally for a while and see if you get the same results.
@Mattches, I had the Fedora User Agent and React Developer Tools extensions installed. I disabled both yesterday after getting your message, and Brave crashed again just a couple of minutes ago. This time while closing an HBO Go tab, previous time was a Youtube tab. Maybe it’s related to video-playing tabs?

Can you try disabling Hardware Acceleration in Settings and see if this helps the issue at all?
People shouldn’t do extra steps so your program will work fine on their platforms, not if your plan is to have wide range of users. If this keeps happening I will just have to switch to other browser. I know that it will not have any effect at all if one user leaves, but if you will not fix this problem, people will not be using it. It really can get annoying when all your pages with browser closes 3 times a day. It worked fine before that one update fucked it all (I am not sure which one was it).
Macbook Pro-user here - I have same issue. (OS Mojave 10.14.6).
Brave crashes (shuts down) when closing tabs – especially when it’s YouTube or Google Docs.
I didn’t have this issue before, only for a week - have used Brave for months. Only have one plugin (HubSpot).
