Automatic new tab upon starting app (android)

Description of the issue:

Sometimes when the app starts, usually after I haven’t used it in a while, it auto opens a new tab. I don’t want the new tab bc I usually have tabs open that I’m using, which I generally reuse. This just started happening in the last couple weeks.

How can this issue be reproduced?

I tried force-closing the app, as well as pushing it out of memory with other apps, then reopening but it doesn’t always happen. Maybe it’s a once every few hours thing.

Expected result:

Open only with my current tabs. If no tabs, THEN a new tab.

I’m also having this annoying issue, for a few weeks now. I can’t see any option to turn it off. Brave 1.66.115, Samsung Galaxy A52 running Android 14.

I can confirm i have same issue with Brave on Motorola G84. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I’ve been having the same problem too (Samsung Galaxy A71) and it’s annoying that nobody has bothered to address this issue, though several threads have been posted about it over the last couple of months. I find it hard to believe that the devs don’t know why this is happening.

Something tells me this is ‘working as intended’. If so, please just tell us that. But I hope that’s not true. It’s really annoying.

Facing the same issue with my Samsung Tab as well. Happens every single time I launch the app.
