YouTube automatically plays new tabs opened in background

Description of the issue: When I am on the YouTube website, and I open video links in new background tabs, the videos will automatically start to play before I have actually clicked on the tabs. I have tried clearing the cache, and this issue is not present in Chrome or Safari. I have also tried to disable the “background audio” setting. I do not have the YouTube app installed.

What is interesting is that if I just click the YouTube link directly, without opening it in a new tab, then the video does not start to play automatically, and it will not play until I hit the play button. Very odd.

I am in the process of switching to Brave and there’s little quirks here and there, but this is by far the most frustrating. Please help!

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Go to YouTube.com
  2. Open several links in new tabs

Expected result: YouTube links do not begin to play until the tab is actually opened.

Brave Version: 1.65 (122)

Mobile Device details: M2 iPad Pro 12.9, iPadOS 17.14.1

I actually went so far as to completely uninstall Brave, rebooted my iPad, reinstalled Brave, didn’t adjust ANYTHING, and went straight to YouTube.com and the issue was still there.
