Reloading pages, is this by design?

When I leave my browser open for some time and come back to it, clicking on the open tabs causes the page to reload. Is this by design or a function of the website being viewed?

This is a browser feature that most Chromium based browsers have. While there could be a variety of factors contributing here, this typically happens when the browser discards the tab data to save on resources. So then when you return to the tab, the site needs to be reloaded again.

Unfortunately, there is no way to stop this behavior for all tabsoutright natively. What you can do is either:

  • Visit brave://discards โ€” this will display a list of your open tabs. Note the Auto discardable section. For specific tabs, you can toggle this option โ€œoffโ€ and the browser will not discard data from this tab and you will not see it refresh when you visit it after some time. Note that this only applies to the specific tabs that you toggle.

  • Alternatively, there are third party extensions you can install in the browser that will allow you to stop this behavior for all tabs. That said, I cannot personally recommend or vouch for any of them as I do not have experience using them.

Hope this helps.
