How do I get a password reset

  1. I am unable to reset my password to view saved passwords
  2. option on forgot password doesn’t recognize either of my two email addresses and I know one of them is right
  3. unable to find any other option in interface to reset password besides the saved passwords interface

It says my version is up to date. I’m on MacOS Monterey 12.2.1 as well
Version 1.36.119 Chromium: 99.0.4844.83 (Official Build) (arm64)

This is not new question but I can’t figure out how to reopen existing thread. Pasted below from 8/19 post:
How do I reset my Brave password so I can view the saved passwords in my browser. I was sure I created a screen capture, but it was for community.brave. The user name and password for community will not allow me to see my saved passwords. I searched for password reset and I keep ending up at the settings menu, but nowhere do I see a reset option.
Mac 10.14.5

This must be a macOS thing. I know nothing about macOS. Sorry. I use Windows and this option is not available as far as I know. I just go to brave://settings/passwords and the entries are there.

Just posting this to bump it. Maybe someone will pop in who can help. You may want to tag the moderators and see if they can help.

I appreciate it thank you. The OS behavior is that (in that screen brave://settings/passwords) if I try to view any passwords it prompts me for my brave pw, which I was sure I knew but isn’t working so I’d like to reset the Brave password and I have absolutely no idea how to do that.
Thanks for tip on moderators!

Hi, there, @jmkozak. Could you post an image of the dialog that pops up? I suspect it’s actually asking for your Keychain Access or macOS user account password, but I’ve been using a third party password manager for so long I don’t remember if Brave has its own.

The easiest way is when the dialog is up, press Shift-Cmd-4, then draw a box around it with your mouse/trackpad. A preview should pop up in the lower right corner of the screen that you can right click or ctrl-click to call a pop-up menu. On that menu, select “Copy to clipboard” and come here and paste it in a reply. If you miss the preview, it should save the screen capture to your Pictures folder or your Desktop with a name like “Screen Shot 2022-03-30 at 3.10.18 PM.”

You nailed it! I tried my MacOS password and it opened right up. Thank you SO much this has been so annoying.

Actions for anyone else with this dilemma the order is

  • settings
  • additional settings
  • autofill (at the bottom)
  • passwords
from there you can click on the 3 dots to get copy/edit/remove options and you’ll get prompted to log in. As noted it wants your Mac password not your Brave password as I had assumed.
Interestingly it only prompts once to log in or I’d add a screenshot.
