Hi Brave Team & Community,
First of all, thanks for making such a privacy-focused browser that keeps improving! I’ve been using Brave for a while, and it’s amazing, but there are two features that would make it even better:
Search by Image (Like Google’s Reverse Image Search)
Problem: Right now, if I want to find the source of an image, check fake news, or identify a product,
I have to:
- Download the image → Open Google Images → Upload it → Search
This is time-consuming and forces me to use another search engine, compromising privacy.
Solution: If Brave adds a built-in “Search by Image” feature (powered by their own index or a privacy-friendly alternative), users could:
- Right-click any image → “Search with Brave” → Get instant results without leaving the browser.
- No need to rely on Google, maintaining privacy while getting quick answers.
Custom Search Engine Support
Problem: Brave has great default search engines (Brave Search, DuckDuckGo, etc.), but sometimes I need to use a specific niche search engine (e.g., for academic research, local shopping, or work-related tools). Currently, I have to:
- Manually go to that search engine’s website → Type my query → Repeat every time.
Solution: If Brave allows custom search engine shortcuts (like Firefox or Chrome),
users could:
- Add their preferred search engine (e.g.,
!scholar
for Google Scholar,!arch
for arXiv). - Search directly from the address bar, saving time and clicks.
Why This Matters?
Privacy-first convenience – No need to fall back to Google for reverse image searches.
Better workflow – Custom search engines would make Brave more flexible for power users.
Competitive edge – These features would make Brave stand out while keeping it user-friendly.
Would love to hear thoughts from the team and community! Are these features on the roadmap? If not, I hope they can be considered.
Thanks for reading!
