A quick access path for Leo

Dear developers,

I’m writing to express my admiration for Brave’s Leo. Its customizability, privacy features, and ease of use are truly impressive. I have a suggestion that could further improve the user experience: Could we add a quick access button for Leo directly on web pages? Imagine this: when you highlight text, a Leo icon pops up right beside it. One click, and the selected content is instantly sent to Leo for analysis or summarization. This seamless integration would make Leo an even more indispensable tool.

@almeydifer it’s two clicks, but already part of Brave. Right click and then there’s an option in context menu. Example below in screenshot:

Doing that would then open Leo on the side like it always does. Not sure if you’re saying would rather it be a small floating window on the screen instead, but at least showing what’s here.

You can also create a keyboard shortcut here:
brave://settings/system/shortcuts
and type in the search or just scroll down to: Toggle Leo AI and customize I shortcut at Add with your choice… just FYI, not saying anything wrong with your suggestion, just in case you haven’t considered it
(I just personally try not to use Ai too much)

Thank you for your prompt response. I really appreciate it. However, I was hoping for a more seamless experience. Similar to Firefox’s AI assistant, I’m envisioning a workflow where: (1) as soon as I highlight text, an icon appears automatically; (2) with a single click, the AI assistant generates a summary or suggestion right away.

Hi, thanks for your response. The shortcut idea is great, but I was hoping for something even more streamlined. I envision a workflow where I can select text and immediately get a summary or suggestion with a single click.

@almeydifer yeah, I’m assuming you are speaking like the below which exists while here on Brave Community, but instead for Leo integration:

Or like I have when I enable my DeepL extension for translations, which does something like below:

Which when clicking gives a floating window like I hinted at earlier:

Either or both would definitely be good and I’m sure will be something they’ll work on here as things progress.

Yeah, I kinda figured you meant … as what @Saoiray just pointed out too… but thought it might help none the less, as I said I don’t use it myself anyway and just thought the shortcut could be useful for now … but not a bad idea for those who do use it

Also, a funny thing about feature requests… the original poster doesn’t have it voted +1 when posting originally, so you do need to go and up vote it for yourself too… I will politely decline, since as I said, I don’t use Leo but don’t forget to vote… for your own

Hey, we actually have a proof of concept PR for doing this (its still in review and has been pushed down the priorities list a bit)

That would really bug me. I hate things popping up when I don’t want them to.
If I’m highlighting something, I really don’t want an icon popping up next to it.

Agreed. I would only want this feature as something you could toggle off. I like Leo and use a quick command-B to bring it up in the sidebar. I wouldn’t want the floating button every time I select text.
