I want to reinstall my windows, Is there a method to save all your data? Bookmarks, history, saved cache, your settings, extensions, passwords and other things.
Edit: You should be able to create a file/folder with all your information from the browser or to make an account with email & password where all information should be saved. In the next update maybe.
@EZ98,
In the meantime, you can go to ~/AppData/Local/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/
and copy this folder. It contains almost all of our browsing data. Make sure you properly backup any Rewards/wallet data, make a safe copy of the User Data
folder as mentioned above, then when you reinstall Windows and Brave, return to that same directory and paste/replace the saved copy of your User Data
folder over the one made by the new installation.
Please let me know if any of the above is unclear.
Any idea what the path is on a Mac for MacOS Catalina? Actually more like, is the information backed up when one uses Time Machine backup and if so, why is it hidden? (I’ve tried everything to access it with no luck). Is this an issue with Apple’s Time Machine or is it a Brave browser data storage issue?
I think its top level is at ~/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware
Thanks for replying. I can find it on the Mac but when I try to recover that folder from a Time Machine backup, it is non-existent.
@hedplug,
You should be able to pull the folder from a time machine backup without any issues. You’re saying that it doesn’t even show up in the backup? How long ago was the backup made?
12/25 with daily backups going back nearly 2 years. I had updated to Catalina 10.15.1 mid-Dec. Wondering if backing up Brave to Time Machine under this new OS skips bookmarks and passwords for privacy reasons? Searching in TM I find everything else but nothing that let’s me set up Brave the way I had it before backing up and erasing the HD. I’ve used TinkerTool to unhide all the hidden files with no luck. Just vanished. (And I had Brave as my default browser not Safari).
@hedplug,
Can you – in your Time Machine – show me what doesappear in ~/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware
?
I can but it will be later today as I’m at work currently and the computer in question is at home. Suffice it to say for now that when I try to restore the Brave Software folder in the Library directory on my Mac, TM won’t let me go back in time past the current backed up state. It’s really bizarre as I don’t have that problem with other apps.
Sorry for the delay and the clarity of the images. Can’t actually seem to take a screen snap in TM. In the image “Bookmarks in Curr. Backup” use see that in TM going into the Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/default/ directory Bookmarks & Bookmarks.bak for the current backup show up. When I try to find those files in older backups to restore the missing bookmarks - they are gone. In fact, Brave Software doesn’t even show up in the Application Support directory at all. Searching for those bookmarks brings no results. Were they never saved as part of a backup for some reason or were they stored somewhere else? Let me know if this all makes sense.
@hedplug,
Try grabbing/restoring the entire BraveSoftware folder as opposed to just the bookmarks file you’re looking for.
Tried that. There’s no folder to grab in pre-Catalina upgrade. I’m stumped as to where the files are stored - should be in Application Support folder but nothing in there.
It would be much easier if you had an account where you can login and save everything automatically, just saying.
Good i like this very nice
