Backup all my brave browser data and extensions II

Hello,
I had to reinstall windows and I made a backup following the instructions of this old post

but when I paste the backup folder nothing happen

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

@Mattches could you please look into this? Thanks so much!

@CML,
What folder exactly did you save a copy of? When you go to past it, can you tell me exactly where you’re pasting it? Further, just to be sure, you did download/install Brave before pasting this folder, is that correct?

Thanks Mattches for your feedback!
I copied “Brave-Browser” folder before reinstalling windows and store it on OneDrive. Later on I pasted the same folder in: C:\Users\ “username” \AppData\Local\BraveSoftware
I confirm that I download/install Brave before pasting this folder.

And lastly, you did replace the folder over the other one that the new installation created? If so, after launching the browser, it launched as if it were a fresh installation, correct?

Exactly!
I replaced the folder over the other one that the new installation has created and after launching the browser, it launched as if it were a fresh installation.

@CML,
If you go into the folder you saved, do you see that these folders are full of your data? For example, if you open the Brave browser folder with all your data on it, go to User data/Default/ and open this Bookmarks file, do you see [your] bookmarks listed here?

No, I can’t see them there :frowning:
Neither using the search bar with some Bookmarks that I remember I’ve saved.
Did I do properly by saving the entire folder “Brave-Browser” before rooting windows?

Did I do properly by saving the entire folder “Brave-Browser” before rooting windows?

Yes that should fine for saving your data. Did you have more than one profile created in your Brave installation before reformatting Windows?

No, I didn’t. I had just one profile.

I just want to confirm that you opened this file and checked for your bookmarks? (image is from macOS but will be the same folder on Windows):

So you don’t see any folders in the User data folder titled Profile 1 or Profile 2? If you do not and you do not see any data/your bookmarks in that file, it appears your data may be lost, although I’m fairly unclear on why the data wouldn’t be there.

I’m going to reach out to some team members about this just to see if anyone else might have an idea of what is going on here.

Hi @Mattches ,

I just want to confirm that you opened this file and checked for your bookmarks? (image is from macOS but will be the same folder on Windows):

I confirm that I managed to check “Bookmarks” file and inside I found all my bookmarks saved before routing the system.

So you don’t see any folders in the User data folder titled Profile 1 or Profile 2 ?

No, I don’t see Profile 1 or Profile 2.

If you do not and you do not see any data/your bookmarks in that file, it appears your data may be lost, although I’m fairly unclear on why the data wouldn’t be there.

I confirm that I saw my data inside bookmarks file.

@CML,
If you don’t have more than one browser profile, there should be a Default folder in your new installation — do you see that? If you do, can you please try copy/paste/replacing the Bookmarks file in your new installation with the one you saved from your previous profile?

Thanks Mattches!
I do see that.
Those bookmarks were related to my job and needed them asap. Due finding out a solution took long time and still not solved, I had to move forward starting adding them manually those that I remember so far. Meaning that I will not keep trying because I don’t want to mess up with the recent bookmarks that I saved manually.

Thanks for your effort!
