When I download a zip file using Brave it completes the download and then sits at 100% for a long time before letting me click to open the file. Sometimes this can be a few minutes for a small (under 10 mb) zip file.
I believe this is the malware scanning functionality. I would prefer not to disable it entirely. Any suggestions?

I believe this is correct and unfortunately (at this time), there’s no fix for this. Compressed files are especially culpable when it comes to infectious malware and the trade-off for your security is more than worth it.
Hopefully down the road we’ll find ways to expedite this process.

The other thing is while the scanning is happening, the entire download functionality of the browser seems to lock up. For example if I click a download link while Brave is scanning a zip file it won’t begin the second download until the scanning has finished. Similarly, clicking the button to view the file in explorer isn’t responsive until the scanning has finished.
