IOS Brave on iPhone 8. For a couple months, video’s will not play. The arrowed circle keeps spinning and video will not play. There have been a few updates on my laptop, but I don’t know if Brave on my iPhone8 updates or if there is a fix for this.
Please advise.

@Brave1 generally would be helpful if you would provide details such as which version of iOS is on your device and which version of Brave you’re using as well.
I do believe iPhone 8 can get iOS 16 but will not get updates to 17 or newer. Brave currently is receiving updates for devices on iOS 16 or later according to what I’m seeing in the App Store.
In terms of you saying videos won’t play, it would be helpful to know:
- Is this all videos or only on certain websites?
- Does turning off Shields have any impact?
- Does opening in Private help?
- Are you using a VPN or anything?
- Does this happen on mobile data and/or wifi?
- Do you also experience this same issue on Safari and/or Chrome?

IOS 16.7.11 most recent update available to my iPhone 8

- Does opening in Private help? …Forgive my ignorance but couldn’t find private tab access. I know it on the laptop, but not the iPhone.

- Does this happen on mobile data and/or wifi? …Both
- Do you also experience this same issue on Safari and/or Chrome? …Videos play with ads on Safari.
There are two primary ways to do this:

Press and hold the + for new tab and it gives option to open in private.

Press the tab switcher button and you’ll see Private on bottom left
When private is open you’ll see a purple colored background. This will remain until you exit Brave or you disable private. To disable private just press the Private but again on the tab switcher menu like below:
I see where the Private button is supposed to be. My screen looks blue with a purple search bar. I hold down the plus + sign but the private button does not show up. Maybe the dark blue background is the purple you are talking about, but the Private tab doesn’t show up. I’ve held my finger on the plus + many times. If I do it quick it gives me a new tab, but leaving finger on it does nothing. Sorry to be a problem child here 
@Brave1 At this point I know you say it works when Shields are off, but then you get ads. So we know that the videos can and should play. If they aren’t playing when Shields is on, then it could be that there’s a setting creating an issue.
The other possibility, which I had been hoping to test by you opening in private, would be an issue with cookies. If that is indeed the problem, you would have to clear out YouTube and/or Google site data. This would make you sign in again if you were signed in, but then should work.
You can go to Brave’s Settings → Shields & Privacy → Manage Website Data → then in the search bar type in Google. It will pop up any site with “Google” in its name and you can slide them from right to left where you’ll see a trash can icon appear. Tap the trash to delete it. Then go back up where you had typed in Google and do the same for YouTube, deleting it.
This will delete specifically for Google/YouTube but leave all other cookies in tact.
I’d see if that resolves this for you.
@Saoiray I cleared all cookies, went to YouTube, tired a video. It seems to be one channel. I tired other channels and they work. This is odd. Well at least now I can get other channels… On that one channel I can’t play when I’m clicking from the Channel Page. If it’s just from YT search they will play, I go to his page and it won’t play. But others do play from their channel page. Strange. Thank you for all your help with this, I can’t figure it out.
Yeah, weird. If you don’t mind sharing the link for it, might be good to test to see if can investigate more from my end to see if it can be replicated. If so, can ping people in to try to resolve. But otherwise not sure what to say.
At least glad it seems to be working on all else.

On my iPhone don’t seem to have issues on it. I’ll tag in @Mattches to see if he or anyone else at Brave can see any issues or if he might have suggestions

I didn’t test all of my YT pages just a couple. There might be others that still do this. It’s enough to give an idea though. They always worked on my laptop. mystery…
@Brave1 just to confirm here, you’re saying that only videos from this specific YT channel won’t play? Additionally, I’d be interested to know if these videos play when you’re not signed into your Youtube account.
@Mattches I just tested again. Signed in or not, on channel pages when I select to play I get the spinning circle and the videos will not play. If I just run a search on YT and select, they play, but not in the channel pages. I’m recovering from surgery, not feeling so well, so I may not have selected the video in a channel when I thought it was playing in channel yesterday. I’m sorry for that, but even after all trials yesterday and so far today… IN YT Channel, the selected videos will only spin and not play. It’s not just the channel pictured above. So it’s the same problem as before. Also still not getting a Private option when resting finger on the plus+ sign.
@Brave1 if you tap the box that shows all your open tabs, there should also be a Private button on the bottom left you can tap to start a Private browsing session. Can you try that and see if this reproduces in the private tab as well?
I’ve asked iOS team for any further suggestions but this is a very strange issue.
I only have the one tab on iPhone Brave. When I hold my finger on the box with the “1” in it, it only says close tab with an x by it. No private option.
Don’t hold the tab box, simply tap the box, then check on the bottom-left of the resulting screen.
opened up 3 tabs, held on icon, list opens up with add bookmark for 3 tabs, add bookmark, duplicate active tab, close all three tabs, close all other tabs, shred site data, close tab.
Please see my comment above – don’t hold the box, just tap it.
