Yesterday I noticed that youtube was being a bit iffy. (27 September 2024)
It would not start the video immediately, it would be a blank screen (the video screen) the videos lenght would also be 6/30/90 seconds so basically ad lenght.
If it let it play out it would then move on to a different lenght time which is probably the second ad, if I then let that play out it then moves on to the video as normally.
I did find a way around it by just reloading the tab but it would happen to any video I clicked, it then proceeds to play the video as normally without any mid ads.
Also as others people have mentioned in other implications of ad problems, if I logged off youtube there would be 0 ads.
The problem seems to be only video-start ads since i get no other kind of ads.
@JeJeff generally it’s good to try without extensions and all when you have issues. Generally the best way for this is to try in a private window, then if issue persists to try in a new browser profile (with no extensions added or settings changed). Any little browser or extension update can create new conflicts even if they have worked well in the past. Doing those at least helps troubleshoot a bit more to know if anything like cookies, extensions, and/or browser settings may be at fault.
Also, though likely unrelated, wanted to point out even that extension has caused people problems. An example is below:
My apologies I failed to mention I tested it with the extension turned off and the extension removed from brave (failed to mention while thinking in what order to say things) I tried removing the extension once again and restarting the pc just now, just in case it would work but it insists to do the same thing.
I asked a friend who uses brave if he has a simillar problem and he said he hasn’t noticed anything such as blank screens and the likes.
@JeJeff but did you try in a new profile or anything? While removing extensions and all might show part of it, there’s other small details checked by having people test in a new profile or private window.
And it’s often that YouTube tries random things to try to slip past detection. It frequently hits just small numbers of people and then tries to grow. It’s not uncommon for people to meet others not having any issues. If that’s what is going on, then I’m sure will be more reports and eventually data will be gathered to update content filters to prevent them.
But it’s always good for each to kind of troubleshoot.
Private (incognito) window: Starts a new session with no cookies and with extensions disabled. Making sure to test this can help to make sure neither cookies nor extensions are at fault. It’s easier to test this way rather than making you delete all cookies and all.
New (test) profile: This lets you preserve your profile and not lose anything. You’re creating a second browser profile that has most of Brave’s settings at default. Of course this also would be no cookies or extensions installed.
If a person tests and one or both of those steps resolve, then it narrows it down a bit. At the very least it helps in trying to point whether it may be something device level causing a problem.
I tried running some more tests on the profile that had the issues and this time it had NO problems, like zero problems running just fine (with the same account and all).
I had removed the extension I had so I tried adding it back and it still worked with the extension.
Im confused because 10 minutes ago it was showing ads with shields on and everything but after I made the new profile it just stopped.
