Brave is lagging heavily. I’m using a 7-year old work laptop for basic browsing tasks.
PC Specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core™ i3-6006U CPU @ 2.00GHz, 2.00 GHz
Installed RAM: 4.00 GB (3.42 GB usable)
System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Edition: Windows 10 Home
Version: 22H2
OS Build: 19045.3803
The PC is optimized as much as possible, but the browser’s performance, especially frame rates, is poor.
I’ve tried:
Disabling “Use graphics acceleration when available” (no noticeable improvement).
Disabling “Continue running background apps when Brave is closed”
Disabling all extensions.
Disabling unnecessary settings.
Experimenting with flags and launch options (–enable-low-end-device-mode --disable-gpu --disable-background-networking --disable-sync)
I haven’t enabled “Memory Saver” since I only use one tab at a time. Similarly, “Energy Saver” is disabled because my laptop is almost always charging.
YouTube playback buffers at 1080p, causing severe FPS drops. However, 720p playback is smooth.
Twitch streams work perfectly fine with no issues.
Internet speed is very fast.
Worth noting that all I have running is Discord (with hardware acceleration disabled) and the Brave browser, using around 600 MB of memory with one YouTube tab open. The PC itself has only 60+ processes running, most of which are system processes.
Other websites work often smoothly, but the main problem lies with YouTube, especially livestreams.
Questions:
Are there optimizations or tricks that could improve browser performance on this device?
Would downgrading the Brave browser or my PC’s OS to an older version help?
Is upgrading the hardware the only real solution?
Browser Version: Brave v1.73.105
