ads just started appearing on youtube. I opened several TABS and all of them showed advertisements. win 11 pro OS with latest brave update.

Exactly same issue. Is there any link with keeping tabs open over a long period of time? I have faced the same issue in the past also.
The same is true on my Chromebook. The ads are linked to the video you want to see and none of my ad blockers can prevent it. I let the ad play for a bit, close the tab, and reopen it from the home page. I assume they set a cookie saying you have paid your dues and the second time usually goes to the video.

I’m not sure I did it right but copied everything after “www.” to “embed/” into the filter. Visited several tubes and got no ads. I looked for videos that might entice an add (something I don’t generally watch) and got no ads.
