Youtube is currently detecting Brave’s adblock.
Showing the message “Ad blockers violate YouTube’s Terms of Service”.
having the same issue here
@BlackWinds generally clearing cookies from YouTube and making sure everything is updated at brave://components
does the trick. That’s assuming it’s not an extension of yours causing the problem. Keep in mind some extensions have multiple purposes, such as Enhancer for YouTube or umm…I can’t remember the name but it was a VPN thing that also had an adblocker thing as part of it as well which triggered stuff.
I’m still not having any issues watching YouTube but they change things up at random to try to battle adblockers. If it’s due to any recent changes, just have to hang tight as things get checked.
What you can always do is try checking in a private window or a new profile to see if it happens there. If so, then generally lets you know it’s just something in your extensions or cookies.
I clean the cookies and remove extensions and it still shows me the “Ad blockers violate YouTube’s Terms of Service” thing, it works on private window though.
Only difference between private window and normal is that private starts a session with no cookies and (unless someone changed settings) with all extensions disabled.
So if it works on private window, it’s one of those two.
Clearing cookies didn’t work, and I got no adblocking extensions. Also now I have to log-in all websites again, of course, which is lame.
Although, on private profile I can still watch youtube, but I don’t use private browsing, so it’s useless for me.
Yeah, they just bricked it again. Guess all we can do is sit tight for a fix.
yes deleting the cookies does the trick
edit: atfer signing in it comes back again
I checked “brave://components/” everything is up to date except “Brave Ads Resources (UY)” it says “Update Error”
But do any of your extensions perhaps have the functionality that you’re not aware of?
Again, shows that it’s cookies or extensions. No other reason why it would work on private but not on normal. Those are only two deviations. (Well, aside from the idea that Private also clears history, cache, and cookies when you exit the session as well)
Does it show the 0.0.0.0 or so when you try to update? And is that the only one that is failing to update or do you see it on other components as well?
The specific question there is that there is an issue inherited from chromium that is being worked on that can trigger issues where the OS (primarily Windows) puts the components folder into an admin only folder. The browser then can’t access it unless someone runs Brave as an administrator. And even then, that can cause its own headaches.
Anyway, I’m just trying to find out if that’s your issue or if yours is more along the lines of what some of the others are facing.
Just in case this person’s explanation might work better for a lot of you:
I disabled all my extensions (which are only 2 btw), and still doesn’t work.
I got some update errors there as well. (using Windows)
ETA: running as Admin doesn’t work either.
Never mind, i tested running Brave as Admin, and now everything is updated. and the YouTube issue persist.
I don’t want to do that yet, because I’m not the only person with this problem so clearly the problem is within Brave, ill wait to see if they fix it.
You may have been hit by 2 issues at once. Did you try the instructions as I quoted? I know when I first posted I gave everyone general ideas but the other person gave step by step details.
The above doesn’t do anything bad. Just would clear out of Google and all, then make you sign in again. But a lot of times what they do is slide stuff in along with their cookies to identify you. So if you don’t clear it, then once they “flag” you then it remains until the cookies are cleared out. Fortunately it hasn’t seemed to flag on an account level (yet), but yeah…
Thank you Saoiray,
I’ve followed the steps and at the moment everything went fine and it’s working as before.
I would like to report a unrelated case that is happening to InnerTune, a music app that uses YouTube Music to run songs without the annoying ads. My guess it’s some kind of update messed up everything.
Regards,
Tried it now, didn’t work.
Also I got update error from “Brave Ad Block First Party Filters” (even if ran as admin).
Clearing cookies worked quick for me, thanks. I’ll make sure to remember this in the future
