@hmazuji, you mentioned everything except the most important detail—what version of Android are you using? I believe the J7 can only run up to Android 8.1. The current versions of Brave for Android require Android 9 or higher, so your device would be incompatible as it’s running an older version of Android.

To install Brave on your device, you’d need to manually add it via an APK. You can find the APK by looking through the Changelog at https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/blob/master/CHANGELOG_ANDROID.md and navigating to a version that works with your device.

For example, if you needed version 1.64.11, you could download it from here: https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases/tag/v1.65.122. This might be the last version that works with Android 8.

Not the most recent device

a blinding flash of the obvious

ok fanboynz, my first job out of school was with at&t working in a data center with sun and sgi mainfraimes running unix. i read o’reily’s running linux, and have installed (on desktops) ubuntu, mint, and other distros from distrowatch over the years. so i have the background to reimage my phone with a new o.s., but the problem is that i’ve never done it. so i don’t have experience with installing o.s. on androids. then, i’m use to working with operating procedures wich tell you step by step what to do, without all the unnecessary additional information
so, i like my phone, and i want to install a new o.s. on it
in addition, i have another incentive to do this, which is i can not get it to read a qr code
so yes. that link has got my attention. but it isn’t giving me the details that i need to know. like, backing up my data to metropcs cloud, or, can i use a cable to my desktop for this project
right now my device is permanently unlocked. what do i do next

i’m willing to install a custom os (rom) on this device. see post from fanboynz

any combination of walkthroughs on youtube, or other site. i’m not familiar with wich walkthroughs are preferred

i used sms backup & restore & have just backed up my call log & messages to my google drive. i don’t know why it’s so complicated to back up my memos. is my calendar automatically backed up ? and i need my memos backed up

There maybe CPU incompatibilities given the age still, but sure having a newer version of Android would help (10 or better?). Worth trying to update
