Windows always ask me for authorization to run Brave Update

Windows always ask me for authorization to run Brave Update when I go to “About Brave” page (brave://settings/help). It was not this way at the beginning, but a lot of updates have passed and this issue continues. Any clue?
Thanks.

@claytom,
Are you referring to Windows UAC authorization when you go to download a Brave update?

Hi, @Mattches
No, when I go to “About Brave” (“Sobre o Brave” in Portuguese) page, it always happens. Take a look at the image attached:

The “animated rounding blue thing” starts rounding and never ends (A), because Windows asks for authorization every time (B) I enter this page. So, I must click “Yes” and voilá!
Brave is up to date

It tells me Brave is up to date (“Brave está atualizado” in Portuguese).

In fact, I opened a Ticket 3 days ago (#177900) and I’m waiting for a response.

Any idea? Thanks!

@claytom,
Thank you for clarifying.
Going to dig into this issue — can you confirm for me that you are using the Administrator account on your Windows machine when you see this issue?

Thank you

Hi, @Mattches
Yes, I’m the Windows Admin.

Thanks.

@claytom,
Can you please try reinstalling the browser and tell me if the issue persists afterwards?

Note that — if you want to keep all your browsing data — ensure that the Also delete your browsing data check box that you are presented with during install is not checked or all associated data will be deleted as well.

This way, when you reinstall, you should have all the data you had previously. Please let me know if the issue persists after reinstalling.

What about my Rewards Balance and my connection with Gemini? Will they be preserved if I not check the “Also delete your browsing data” check box?

@claytom,
Your Rewards data should remain intact as well. To be safe, you can go ahead and make a safe copy of your data by going to ~/AppData/Local/Brave Software and copy the Brave-browser folder found here.

I ran the BraveBrowserSetup.exe that I downloaded from the website. But I got a big scare when I realized that the Brave installer didn’t give me options to choose between keeping the current data or starting over from scratch!

Suddenly Brave itself was being loaded before my eyes! The first thing I saw were the Favorites, which seemed to be alright, then the tabs I used in the last session. Perfect!

The next concern was Brave Rewards, since the information in brave://newtab/ and brave://rewards/ showed different data, different balances and one of them said it was disconnected from Gemini. But since brave://rewards-internals/ seemed correct, I waited some time and everything became normal.

Despite the “scare”, I was confident because, as you reminded me, I had backed up the ~\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser folder (over 22 thousand files and folders! How about a better alternative for the future?).

Regarding the initial problem, yes, everything is fine now! Case closed.

Thank you!
