Why sign into Brave?

Just a basic question here: When I’m using Brave Browser, It’s asking me to sign in to save passwords. I don’t remember this behavior happening before last week. The problem is it sends me to a Google login screen. I’m trying to avoid using Google for obvious reasons. I have a sync chain setup. Am I confusing this?

While I’m here, why are there so many repeated devices in my sync chain? I use five devices but have 20+ instances of these five appearing in my sync chain. Should I remove the ones with older dates or does that nuke access completely?

@chichaz wish you could have provided the details asked of you when you went to create this topic. Such as what OS are you on and which specific version of Brave?

That aside, Brave never has anything asking you to sign in to save passwords. If you’re seeing something like that it would be an extension you’re using or you have some malware/virus.

For this question, I feel like it hardly matters what the OS is, etc. I’m on Win10. And I went to check the version and found I had an update. I’ve been trying to duplicate the problem but haven’t been able to do so. I agree it shouldn’t ask me to sign in!

Well, part of it would be to know for sure what you’re working with. Just because you labeled this as desktop doesn’t mean you didn’t mislabel it and that you’re actually on Android or something.

In addition no real description of where you’re seeing these prompts or anything leaves a person to wonder if it’s an OS prompt, a website redirect, an extension, a pop-up ad, or what?

Instructions given can and will differ depending on the specific OS or version of Brave you are on. On top of that, typically people will take the information given and try to replicate. So the developers or others will try to get a setup as close to yours as possible to see if they can replicate the same problem. If they can, it helps determine what’s going on and offer a solution.

So yeah, it’s always better when more details can be given.

Well, definitely give an update if you have any further issues. Glad to hear that it seems to be fine for now at least.,

Oh, and @chichaz, I’m guessing this is from an issue a few months ago. It kept duplicating entries. Just go on the device you see and delete any duplicates of itself that don’t say (This device). Or you could just delete the sync chain and start a new one if you want.

Thanks. It’s not fun setting this up, so I’ll be careful to leave the most recent entries.

I’ll come back when I encounter the log in prompt again.
