Why do I have to reinstall on every update?

Whenever there is an available update to Brave, I have to re-install the app instead of just downloading an update and installing that. Surely this isn’t right. I’m on a Mac, OS Ventura 13.6.5. Is there a way to fix that?

@Mattches This is second person mentioning this issue. Any idea why some on Mac would be having this issue of it supposedly requiring to reinstall rather than just get update? Other topic is linked below.

How did you initially install the browser?

I downloaded the install package and installed it that way. I’m also now running into an issue where it will not get the next update - failing and giving the attached response. I’ve tried several times and keep getting this.

Also tried updating within the Settings > About and get this:

From our website (https://brave.com/download)? From our Github (https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases)? Was it installed using a .dmg or a .pkg file?

Oh, sorry! yes I got the dl dmg file from Brave.com

Are you connected to a VPN by chance? If so does disabling it make any difference?

I am not on a VPN either.

Looking into why you cannot update the browser right now.

FYI, I installed from Brave’s download link only like maybe 4 months ago. I’m on Ventura as well. Also I tried running the update while in Privileges mode on my Mac and still no dice.

@DirtyUser so you are the admin on the machine where you’re seeing this? Additionally, are there other users on the machine as well or is your profile the only one?

When privileges is turned on, I have admin rights. I am the only one using the machine. It is my work machine (meaning the company I work for supplied it to me), but I don’t have similar issues with other apps as far as installing/updating.

If there is any chance that this topic is still open, I, too, have the same issue. Each time Brave tries to update, it tells me that it cannot update and I have to uninstall and reinstall to get the most up to date version. I am using a MacBook M2 Pro with Sonoma.

I do the reinstall and I still have an orange box in the top right corner on the Brave browser saying update. It doesn’t work?
